2. Heat dissipation design
In high-power LEDs, heat dissipation is a big problem. For example, a 10W white LED has a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 20%, and 8W electric energy is converted into heat energy. If heat dissipation is not used, the core temperature of the high-power LED will rise rapidly. When the junction temperature (TJ) rises above the maximum allowable temperature (usually 150), the high-power LED will be damaged due to overheating. Therefore, heat dissipation design is also the most important content. Let’s discuss the heat dissipation design from two aspects of the aluminum substrate and the heat sink.
2-1. Substrate selection
In the application of LED products, it is usually necessary to assemble multiple LED light sources on a circuit substrate. In addition to the role of the LED module structure, on the other hand, as the output power of the LED becomes higher and higher, the circuit board also plays a role of heat dissipation, dissipating the generated heat. Made of LED crystal. Therefore, the choice of materials must take into account the requirements of structural strength and heat dissipation. For the substrate, we compared FR4, ceramic substrate and MCPCB. respectively.
(1) The thermal conductivity of FR4 is about 0.36W/m. K, can not meet the heat dissipation requirements of high-power LED lighting.
(2) The thermal conductivity of ceramics is greater than 80W/m. K, expensive, poor processability, can not be used in a large area.
(3) The thermal conductivity of MCPCB is greater than 2.0W/m. K. Moderate price, strong processability, mature technology and mass production.
2-2 Radiator design
The role of the heat sink is to absorb the heat transferred from the substrate or chip, and then diffuse to the external environment to ensure the normal temperature of the LED chip. Most radiators are carefully designed for natural convection and forced convection. Namely active radiator and passive radiator.
3. Features of LED high bay lights:
